Description

Lock 30, also known as Winterbutlee Lock, was built in 1798 as part of the Rochdale Canal. It features massive rusticated stone retaining walls and cappings, with rebates for gates. The northern end of the lock curves down to a lower level, which opens into a basin that allows barges to turn around before reaching Nip Square Lock.
