Description

The Old Hall, now a hotel, dates to the 17th century. It is built of coursed dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high, originally with four windows on the first floor, and includes an added bay to the left. A two-storey gabled porch fronts the second bay, featuring a panelled door with a fanlight above, set within a moulded, segmental-arched doorway with voussoirs and moulded imposts. A moulded string course runs along the façade. Above the porch is a five-light, double-chamfered mullion window with a dripmould. The gable has shaped kneelers, coping, and a finial. Single-light windows are incorporated into the returns of the porch. Inside the porch is a quoined, Tudor-arched doorway with a nail-studded plank door. Windows on the ground floor in bays one, three, and four are double-chamfered mullions, consisting of four, eight with a transom, and three with a transom, all under a dripmould with carved terminals on either side. Above these, windows are of four, six, and two lights respectively. Shaped gutter brackets are present. The gables feature shaped kneelers, coping, and finials. End and ridge stacks are visible. A 20th century extension to the left incorporates some 17th century door and window openings. Further double-chamfered mullion windows, some with transoms, are found to the rear, the rear wing, and the right return. A basket-arched, chamfered quoined doorway and an external stack are found on the left return of the rear wing. The interior reveals stone, arched doorways; stone fireplaces; and heavy-scantling beams, including stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
