Description

This early 18th-century house, later adapted as a house and office, is situated on St Johns Street and adjacent St Johns Close in Silsden. The building is constructed of rubble, partly rendered and finished with a stone slate roof. It originally comprised three rooms in a line. The central bay features a three-light mullioned window. The outer bays incorporate three inserted doorways and additional windows. A coped gable is present to the left, featuring kneelers and a star-shaped finial, believed to represent the Knight Templars; three ridge stacks are visible, two of ashlar with cyma-moulded cornices. The rear elevation, arranged in an L-shape and with quoined angles, includes a mutilated chamfered mullioned and transomed stair-window. A projecting range features a doorway with a segmental-arched lintel and chamfered surround. The left-hand return wall displays an old central doorway, now a window, with rebated jambs and lintel, likely originally accessed by steps. Above this is a three-light mullioned window. The building has undergone significant alterations in the mid-20th century and is included on the list primarily for group value.
