Description
Nos 2 to 14 on Giles Street are a stepped terrace of small two-storey houses built around 1850-1855. These sandstone "brick" houses match the terrace on the opposite side of the cobbled street. They feature ashlar plinths and first-floor sill bands that rise up steps, along with shallow flat eaves. The roofs are slate with corniced chimneys. Each house has two windows with revealed sashes and thin lintels, and the doors consist of four moulded panels with rectangular fanlights. The doors are flanked by painted ashlar Tuscan pilasters and have entablatures with projecting cornices, as well as shallow, panelled, pedimented blocking courses topped with rounded antifixae. This terrace is noted for being an intact example of small-scale streetscape from the period.
