Description
This three-storey warehouse at Black Dyke Mills was built between 1868 and 1881 for John Foster and Son. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings, and the roof is not visible. The building is 19 bays long and 5 bays deep. The central three bays are wider and project slightly forward, supported by pilasters that hold up a full dentilled entablature. This features an openwork parapet with a cornice and large finials. The wings on either side and the returns have a deep cornice and blocking course on tall console brackets. The ground-floor window and door openings are all blocked. The first-floor windows in the centre bay are square-headed, while the side bays have round-arched windows with archivolts. The second-floor windows have stilted cambered heads on moulded imposts within square reveals and feature a moulded sill band. The building has a flat roof.
