Description
The gate-piers, gates, wall, and railings at the front of Black Dyke Mills were built between 1868 and 1881 for John Foster and Son. The structure features ashlar gate-piers and a hammer-dressed stone wall topped with ashlar coping. The gates and railings are made of cast iron. There is a central archway supported by square piers, which has a broad moulded bracketed cornice and a blocking course. The main gateways are located on either side, with paired piers on the left and a single pier on the right, all featuring a fluted frieze and ornamental caps. The ornamental gates include dog-bars, circular motifs, spear-head, and clove finials. The wall has piers that support similar railings, which extend back to the mill building on the left and the entrance lodge on the right.
