Description

This is a terrace of four improved workers’ houses located on Jane Street in Saltaire, completed by 1868. Designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt, the houses are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof. The terrace comprises two bays per house, with No. 13 slightly projecting and featuring a gable. No. 12 is set back on the right-hand side. Each house has entrances with fanlights set in stepped reveals, and the ground-floor windows are round-arched and archivolted. The first-floor windows are square-headed and sit on a sill band. No. 13 retains its original six-pane sashes and front door. No. 12 has a more recent porch infilling the corner angle. Square stone brackets support the guttering. The right gable end of No. 13 features a three-light canted bay window to the ground floor and paired round-arched windows to the first floor. The buildings are included for their group value as part of the Saltaire model village.
