Description

This is a terrace of improved workers’ houses and shops, completed in 1861 as part of the Saltaire model village. The buildings were designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt. They are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof. The terrace consists of two storeys and two bays per house, with the end houses projecting slightly and featuring gables. Each house originally had a shop front, adorned with a cornice supported by brackets; number 24 is now part-blocked. The entrances feature fanlights set in stepped reveals, while the ground-floor windows are round-arched and archivolted. First-floor windows are square-headed, except for the end houses, which have a triple-group design with round-arched lights. A first-floor sill band runs along the terrace, and shaped stone brackets support the gutter. Attached to the rear of number 32 is the single-storey addition at 107 Saltaire Road, dating from the contemporary period and currently used as a hairdresser’s shop. This addition features a rounded corner and a glazed front, with a cornice and blocking course.
