Description
This barn, located approximately 25 meters southeast of Harden Hall, is likely from the early 18th century. It features a stone encasing of an earlier timber frame, with hammer-dressed stone, dressed quoins, and a stone slate roof. The barn has four bays and a single aisle that extends to two bays on the east side.
On the west side, there is a tall segmental-arched cart entry with skewbacks, composite jambs, and a chamfered surround. To the left of the entrance, there are two over three rectangular ventilators, and to the right, there is a mistal doorway with a quoined lintel and chamfered surround. The gables are coped with kneelers. The left-hand return features a mistal doorway set in the aisle with a chamfered surround, two ventilators, and a wide pitching-hole set in the apex with composite jambs. A weathervane is positioned on the gable.
Inside, the barn has a well-preserved timbered roof with king-post trusses, single-angle struts, and bracing to the ridge. One post in the two-bay aisle has straight braces to the arcade plate and a convex brace to the tie-beam. The barn is included for its group value.
