Description
The steps, terrace wall, balustrade, and archway located at the front and left of Laurel Mount Rest Home were built in 1885 and are made of ashlar. The steps on the left consist of three flights. To the right, the terrace wall features a segment-headed niche with voussoirs and a lion's head above the keystone. Both the steps and the terrace wall are adorned with a balustrade that has moulded Carolean-style balusters and panelled angle piers topped with ball finials. The balustrade and steps in front of the left side of the house are designed in the same style. At the junction of the front and left balustrades, there is a buttressed, moulded archway topped by a griffin, which includes a wrought-iron latticed gate. This structure is included for its group value.
