Description
Nos 46 and 48 High Street are early 19th century buildings, likely refaced from an earlier 18th century structure. They are two-storey houses with later shops and feature stone slate roofs and sill courses. The buildings are constructed from coursed sandstone that resembles brick and have a bracketed gutter cornice.
No 46 has a trumpet rainwater head and two square mullioned windows on the first floor, along with a small, projecting mid-19th century shop front that includes a fretted frieze at the cornice and a blocking course. No 48 features two first floor windows, one of which has a square mullion. It also has a mid-19th century pilastered shop window and a plain doorway. To the left, there is a carriageway with a flat arch leading to South Fold, and the ceiling of the carriageway has an exposed large beam. The rear elevation has a tripartite square mullioned small pane glazing bar sash window.
