Description
Lumb Beck Farmhouse is a house that dates back to 1670 and was initially built for the Clarkson family, as indicated by the initials and date "ESC" on the building. The farmhouse was substantially rebuilt around 1970 and features rubble brought to course, dressed quoins, and a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with an end lobby-entry plan, now consisting of three cells, an outshut, and a stair turret at the rear.
The front of the house has three bays of chamfered-mullioned multi-light windows, all from the 1970 renovation. The doorway at the right-hand end has a basket-arched design and retains the original date inscription set in a shield, above which is a small chamfered light with an arched head. There are three ridge stacks on the roof. The rear of the house features a chamfered doorway set in the outshut. At the angle of the house and outshut is a two-storey circular stair tower with two chamfered lights.
Inside, the house has a large stack and a wide segmental-arched fireplace with skewbacks and a broad chamfered surround. The lobby is lit by a narrow chamfered light. The interior also includes a stop-chamfered spine beam and floor joists, while the stone steps of the spiral staircase have been renewed.
