Description
Hewenden Viaduct is a railway viaduct built around 1880, likely designed by engineer Richard Johnson. It is constructed from hammer-dressed and rock-faced stone and features 17 semicircular arches that rise 120 feet high, each spanning 50 feet. The arches are supported by tall rock-faced stone piers, with the piers flanking the central five arches being thicker and featuring projecting pilasters. There is a band and parapet that includes seven projecting retreats, as well as abutments at either end. The viaduct formerly carried the Great Northern railway line from Bradford to Keighley.
