Description

This is a house, dated 1735 on its east front, with significant alterations and extensions from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with ashlar used for the 19th-century work, and has a stone slate roof. The front features a 2-cell, double-depth plan with a central lobby entrance. Quoins are present. The doorway has tie-stone jambs and a moulded surround. Above the doorway sits a bullseye window initialed and dated "I M W. To either side are altered windows from 1735, but the original moulded string course is retained. The first floor has double-chamfered mullioned windows—a 4-light window to the left and a 6-light window with a king mullion to the right. A tall central stack with two coupled flues projects forward from the ridge, and there is another stack to the left gable. The rear features a symmetrical three-bay facade with a Doric porch and tall two-paned sash windows on each floor. Inside, the housebody includes a wide fireplace with a cyma-moulded surround and shelf. Also present is a 19th-century stone dog-leg staircase with cast-iron balusters.
