Description

This building is a barn located to the south-east of Bridge House, incorporating numbers 10, 11, and 12 Surgery Street. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and is constructed of ashlar and thin coursed millstone grit, topped with a stone slate roof that features ashlar coping. The barn consists of five bays, with the central bay having ashlar under a pedimented gable and projecting quoins.

The central round-arched cart door is adorned with voussoirs and flanked by pilasters that have bases and capitals, all beneath a frieze and cornice. Above the door is a Diocletian window with pigeon holes in the tympanum. The first two bays each contain a round-arched window with keystones, impost blocks, and Y-tracery. The fourth and fifth bays have been converted into a two-storey cottage, which features a 20th-century door and two 20th-century windows. The building also has chamfered gutter brackets and a slatted ridge louvre.

At the rear, there is a central cart door with quoins and voussoirs, accompanied by a small window. The left return showcases a Y-traceried, round-arched window with a keystone and impost blocks. The right return has been converted into two-storey cottages in the 19th century, featuring two doors, one of which is now blocked.
