Description

The Swithin Anderton Monument is an Albert Memorial inspired design, erected in memory of Swithin Anderton, a Justice of the Peace, who passed away in 1860, along with his family. Instead of featuring a statue, the monument consists of a column on a pedestal that supports a ribbed vault canopy. It has richly carved clustered columns at the corners, which are topped with pinnacles. The structure includes crocketed gables and a short spire that rises from an octagonal crenellated base. The pedestal bears the signature of I S L Thornton.
