Description

This is a terrace of six improved workers' houses, numbered 1 to 9, situated on Constance Street in Saltaire. Completed by 1861, they were designed by Lockwood & Mawson for Titus Salt as part of the wider Saltaire model village. The houses are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof. Each house is two storeys high and two bays wide, with the end houses projecting slightly and featuring gables. The entrances are set in stepped reveals, topped with fanlights. Ground-floor windows are round-arched and archivolted, while first-floor windows are square-headed, except for the end houses which feature a triple group with round-arched lights. Original six-pane sashes remain in No. 6. A first-floor sill band runs along the terrace, and shaped stone brackets support the gutter.
