Description
The chimney tower and boilerhouse at Wyke Middle School, built in 1904, is constructed from dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof. It has a chamfered plinth and an octagonal chimney shaft with alternating broad and narrow facades. The narrow facades are adorned with bold ashlar rustication blocks and scroll console brackets at the base. The broad sections include tall segment-headed openings fitted with louvres. The upper section of the chimney is made of ashlar and features a moulded cornice, battlements, curved parapets, and merlons. There is a single-storey lean-to boilerhouse and coal store on either side of the chimney. This structure was designed to serve the Wyke secondary and infant schools.
