Description

This is a terrace of twelve improved workers’ houses situated on Dove Street, Saltaire. Completed by 1868, they were designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt as part of the wider Saltaire model village. The houses are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof.

Each house is two storeys and two bays wide. Houses number 1 and 12 project slightly and have gabled fronts. The entrances feature fan-lights and stepped reveals. Ground-floor windows are round-arched and archivolted, while first-floor windows are simple, except for numbers 1 and 12, which have a triple window arrangement with round-arched upper lights. The ground-floor windows of numbers 9 and 10 have been altered; number 9 has a recent bow window, and number 10 now features a square casement. A first-floor sill band runs across the terrace, and there are moulded stone brackets supporting the gutter.
