Description
Nos 3 and 5 Burnett Street is a warehouse and office block built around 1863-67, designed by Eli Milnes. It is located on a corner site with Peckover Street. The building has a lower and simpler two-storey and basement design on Peckover Street, while it rises to three storeys on Burnett Street due to the sloping site. Constructed from sandstone ashlar, it features deeply vermiculated rustication topped by a broad sill band. There is a bed mould on the plain console bracket eaves cornice. The corner of the building is bowed and slightly inset. Both facades have plain, thin linteled windows. On the Peckover Street front, there is a rusticated pilaster entrance for the warehouse on the right side. The main office entrance is on the left side of the Burnett Street facade, leading into a raised ground floor. This entrance is supported by profiled consoles and features an entablature with a tripartite Venetian light above, flanked by scrolls, and topped with a segmental pediment.
