Description
This is a warehouse and office building located on the corner of Cater Street and Burnett Street, within the Little Germany precinct. It was constructed in 1862. The building is four storeys high with a basement, which serves as a lower ground floor on the Cater Street side due to the sloping site. It is built of sandstone ashlar above a basement with heavy, vermiculated rustication and a rock-faced plinth. A deep ashlar sill band runs along the main ground floor, with further sill bands on the upper floors. Console brackets support a projecting eaves cornice. The windows are plain sash windows with thin lintels; there are ten windows facing Cater Street and ten facing Burnett Street. Basement windows have cast iron grilles. A tall, pilastered doorway is located on the right-hand side of the Cater Street front, featuring double panelled doors and a semi-circular fanlight. A fluted cornice is capped with consoles arranged in a segmental curve, and a cartouche above displays the date, framed by richly carved acanthus scrolls.
