Description

A warehouse and office block situated on the corner of Burnett Street and Cater Street, likely built around 1863-67. The building was designed by Eli Milnes and is constructed from finely dressed ashlar sandstone. The basement has pronounced rustication, with decorative moulded sill bands marking each floor. A prominent bracketed eaves cornice runs around the top of the building. It rises six stories above a semi-basement. There are seven windows facing Cater Street and eight facing Burnett Street, with a levelled corner featuring one window per floor. The ground floor windows are segmental arched, with a moulded string course extending over the window heads. Upper floor windows are plain. A corner entrance features a pilastered doorway with fluted neckings, a semi-circular arch, panelled spandrels carved with anchors and medallions, an entablature decorated with rosettes, and a projecting cornice. A warehouse waggon arch is located at the Cater Street end of the front elevation.
