Description

A group of eight early 19th-century back-to-back cottages located on West Lane and Shirley Street, Keighley. The cottages include numbers 21, 25, 29, and 33 West Lane, and numbers 4, 6, 8, and 10 Shirley Street. The construction is of coursed millstone grit, with a stone slate roof. Numbers 21, 25, 29, and 33 have cellar dwellings, now incorporated into the houses above. Each cottage has two storeys and a single first-floor window. Doors and windows are set within plain stone surrounds, with the windows featuring flat-faced mullions and projecting sills. The cellars of numbers 21, 25, 29, and 33 are accessed by steps leading to a door on the right and a three-light window to the left. The ground floor features stone steps with an iron balustrade, leading to a door on the right and a three-light window to the left, with a four-light window above. Paired gutter brackets are supported by tabling. Corniced stacks are present. The rear elevations of numbers 4, 6, 8, and 10 Shirley Street feature a door on the left and a three-light window to the right, with a corresponding window above. Paired gutter brackets are also found on tabling here.
