Description
Number 88 and the attached cottage to the rear, along with numbers 90 and 92/94, are probably three cottages, now used as five separate dwellings. They likely date from around 1748 and were altered in the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof.
The principal architectural interest lies in the pair of original doorways, which feature composite jambs and deep lintels with a false ogee formed by a chamfered surround. The doorway to the left is inscribed with "ICM" and the date 1748. Three new doorways have been added, and all windows are altered. Two stacks are located on the ridge of the roof.
A small, single-cell cottage is attached to the rear, featuring a parallel ridge and gable, with a doorway having a monolithic lintel. A first-floor taking-in door also features composite jambs and a deep lintel. This cottage is now ruinous. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
