Description

This is a late 17th-century manor house with an attached barn, located west of Silsden on Bolton Road, Cringles. A mid-18th century barn was later linked to the house by a mid-19th century extension. The building is constructed of coursed rubble stone, with hammer-dressed stone used for the extension, and has three stone-slate roofs, each with a different roofline.

The original manor house, comprising two cells, retains a bay of double-chamfered mullioned windows, featuring a four-light window above a three-light window. It has a coped gable on the right side. A tall, well-dressed stack rises from the ridge. The mid-19th century extension has two bays, with a doorway featuring monolithic jambs and a large, square four-paned sash window on the ground floor, and two smaller two-paned sash windows on the first floor. Gutter brackets are present. A coped gable with a chimney stack sits on the right gable of the extension.

Attached to the left is a barn with a lower roof. The barn’s cart entry is formed by a segmental arch made of two cantilevered stones with a joggled keystone, and a quoined angle to the inner porch. A coped gable, with kneelers, is visible on the left side of the barn.

Inside the barn, the roof is of a fish-bone king-post design.
