Description

This building, dating from the early 19th century, comprises seven windows across two storeys. It is constructed of ashlar with a stone slab roof and paired gutter blocks. The two leftmost bays are distinguished by a rougher finish than the rest of the building. A bow window is present at the lower left end, while the remaining windows are sash windows with glazing bars. Doors are situated beneath the fourth and sixth windows; the first has reeded quarter columns, and the second features a fan above a six-panelled door, both with flat hoods supported by moulded brackets. A carriage passage is found beneath the second window, featuring a flat head and lintel of a single stone slab, with a bowed wrought iron lamp holder positioned above. Two additional bays are set back on the left, the right-hand window incorporating Gothic glazing bars. A return wing of three bays exists at the rear of the north end, and has been modernised. Number 2, the Post Office Yard, is included within the listing. The building is part of a group including Burley Lodge (Highway Cottage), Chevin House (numbers 4 to 16), and the Malt Shovel Hotel.
