Description

This early 19th-century property comprises three houses at numbers 4, 6, and 8 Main Street in Burley in Wharfedale. The houses are constructed of dressed coursed stone with a stone slab roof featuring gable copings. Wide-spaced gutter-brackets are a prominent external feature. Each house contains a single eared sash window with glazing bars. The right-hand doorways have matching cases, with jambs featuring triple flutings and simple segmental pediments; the doors themselves are modern or altered. Numbers 6 and 8 have a single step with railings of a spiral pattern. The property forms a group with Burley Lodge (Highway Cottage), Chevin House (numbers 4 to 16 even, 24 to 30 even, and 30A), 2 Post Office Yard, St Mary’s Church, the wall around the ground south of the mill pond (along Main Street and the west side of Corn Mill Lane), and the Malt Shovel Hotel.
