Description

Early 19th century, 10 and 12 Main Street are two storeys high. The buildings are constructed of coursed, squared stone and have a stone slab roof. Each house has one eared sash window with glazing bars. The windows have stone slab surrounds. Doorways are located at the outer ends of the buildings, with doorcases that match those of Nos. 4-8, featuring triple flutes to the jambs and simple segmental pediments. The buildings are terraced with Nos. 6-8 but are of a different construction. They form a group with Burley Lodge (also known as Highway Cottage), Chevin House, Nos. 4 to 16 (even), Nos. 24 to 30 (even), and 30A, 2 Post Office Yard, St Mary's Church, the wall around the ground south of the mill pond (along Main Street and the west side of Corn Mill Lane), and the Malt Shovel Hotel.
