Description

This is a terrace of six improved workers' houses, with a shop incorporated at number 1. It was completed by 1868 by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt as part of the Saltaire model village. The buildings are constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with a Welsh slate roof. Each property originally had two bays and is two storeys in height. The end bays project forward and are gabled. Number 1 originally had a shop front, part of which remains blocked and is topped by a cornice supported on long brackets. The entrances have fanlights and are set in stepped reveals. Ground-floor windows are round-arched and archivolted, with the exception of number 1, which now has a square-headed window. First-floor windows are square-headed, with the exception of the end houses, which each have a triple group of round-arched lights. A first-floor sill band runs along the terrace, and shaped stone brackets support the gutter.
