Description
The barn and farm buildings located approximately 15 metres to the northeast of Royd Farmhouse are currently being converted into three dwellings. The buildings date back to 1790, as indicated by the date on the lintel. They are constructed from coursed, squared gritstone with a stone slate roof, while the lower part features a 20th-century cement-tiled roof. The structure is L-shaped, with an extended wing projecting from the front right of the barn and consists of two storeys.
The barn features quoins and a large segmental-arched cart entrance with quoined reveals, which has been fitted with 20th-century glazing. To the right of the entrance is a lower archway that has boarded garage doors. On the left side, there is a door framed in bonded ashlar with a dated lintel, accompanied by a small window to its right. The first floor has two windows, both with 20th-century glazing.
The range of buildings projecting from the right side also displays quoins. There are two cowhouse doors on the right, both of which are blocked, with one now serving as a window. Central stone steps lead up to the left, where there is an arched-headed lintel above a 20th-century panelled door beneath the landing, with glazed doors above. The first floor has two window openings.
To the right, there is a lower extension that is set back, featuring two segmental-arched cart-shed openings with quoined reveals and a monolithic central pillar. There is also a quoined door surround to the left, along with two square openings for the loft and another small opening to the right. A short extension at the rear right corner of the range is not of special interest.
The buildings are included partly for their group value.
