Description

Upper Townend Farm House is a farmhouse, dated 1745 with a later addition. It’s constructed of rough ashlar gritstone with a stone slate roof, and a Welsh slate roof to the rear. The original design comprised two rooms and a central staircase, with a bay added to the right and an outshut at the rear. The house has two storeys and three windows on the first floor. The original portion features projecting quoins. A 20th-century door is situated to the right of the centre, set within a bonded ashlar surround cut to form a simple architrave. Flanking this are square-faced surrounds to 20th-century casement windows. A first-floor band is located beneath two similar windows. An architrave frames the dated plaque above the door. A coved eaves course returns to the left. The building has moulded kneelers and square-cut gable copings. Ashlar end stacks incorporate a band and cornice, with a matching ridge stack on the right side. The added bay to the right has flush quoins. A door is set within a bonded surround to the left of the addition, with a casement window to the right. A blocked quoined surround to a former first-floor doorway is now a window. Attached buildings to the right are not of particular interest.
