Description
Porter's Lodge at Bolsterstone Castle is a medieval building that was extensively remodeled in the late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed, squared gritstone, with the 19th-century work appearing more regular. The building has a stone slate roof and is a single storey with one window and one door.
On the left side of the lodge, there are quoins, and the jamb and springer of a medieval arched gateway. To the right, there is a narrow oak door set in a chamfered quoined surround with a shouldered lintel. A 19th-century plaque next to the door indicates that the supposed date of the doorway is A.D. 1250. To the left of the archway jamb, there is a tall three-light window with lights shaped like a doorhead, featuring leaded lights. The stone gutter brackets are also present. On the right side, there is a matching four-light window with a relieving arch above it. A reset medieval mask is located in the gable above.
