Description
The Statue of James Montgomery, located 12 meters east of the Cathedral in Sheffield, is a memorial statue erected in 1861. It was designed by John Bell and cast by the Coalbrookdale Company. The statue was relocated from the General Cemetery in 1971. It features a life-size, draped standing figure on a tapered square granite pedestal, which includes an inscription and verses by Montgomery. The statue is set on a square sandstone plinth. James Montgomery, who passed away in 1854, was a prominent local journalist and hymnologist.
