Description

The Charnwood Hotel and adjoining former coach house, located on Sharrow Lane, is a house that has been converted into a hotel. It was built around 1780 and underwent alterations and additions in 1990. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features hipped slate roofs, with a single ridge and a single side wall stack.

The hotel section, situated on the right, is three storeys high and has a symmetrical facade with three sets of three windows. The windows include three 12-pane sashes on the ground floor and three 6-pane sashes above. The central entrance features a renewed doorcase with Doric columns, an open pediment, and a fanlight, flanked by two 12-pane sashes. The left side of the building has similar window arrangements, with blank spaces to the right. The central entrance on this side has a six-panel door with a moulded surround and a fanlight.

There are two set-back wings, each two storeys tall, with three windows. The right wing is mostly covered by a late 20th-century hipped conservatory that includes a pedimented doorway resembling a Venetian window. The left wing has three 6-pane sashes above and three 12-pane sashes below, and it is adjacent to a late 20th-century glazed link building.

The former coach house on the left is two storeys high and features a three-window range. It includes three 6-pane sashes and, below, three tall round-arched recesses with imposts. The central doorway has an overlight and is flanked by two 12-pane sashes. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
