Description

No. 1 Sharrow Lane is a bank building, now serving as a restaurant and offices, constructed around 1910 and converted around 1990. It features red brick with ashlar dressings and a hipped slate mansard roof with a rear wall stack, designed in the Beaux-Arts style.

The exterior includes a plinth, angle pilasters, and a dentilled cornice at the first floor, along with a moulded eaves cornice. The building has two storeys plus attics and a five-window range, situated on a triangular site with a corner entrance. The recessed corner entrance bay has a projecting centre topped with a moulded pediment and acroteria, which houses a clock.

On the first floor, there is a three-light window, with a single light window in each return. Below this, a semicircular portico features a dentilled cornice and a flat roof supported by two pink granite columns and black granite pilasters on a deep plinth. Steps lead up to a moulded segment-arched doorway with a shaped keystone and double doors, with a single light window on each return.

Each return has a central section with three windows, defined by pilasters. The first floor showcases three two-light stone mullioned windows, the central one featuring a shaped keystone, flanked by single windows in the side bays, also with shaped keystones. Above, there are three segment-arched dormers with two-light casements. Below, three large cross casements are topped with pediments and shaped keystones, flanked by single light windows with shaped keystones and pedimented panels above them. The right return includes a moulded segment-arched doorway with a shaped keystone, and above it, an overlight with a moulded surround and pediment. The interior has not been inspected.
