Description

Wadsley Hall, along with its adjoining barns and stables, is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house and flat. It dates back to 1722, with a mid-19th century addition that matches the original style. The barns and stables date from the late 18th century. The building is constructed from ashlar, squared dressed stone, and brick, featuring a rendered right gable and stone dressings. The roofs are made of stone slate and concrete tiles, with three gable stacks and two ridge stacks. Architectural details include a plinth, rusticated quoins, bands at the first floor and lintels, moulded eaves, and coped gables. The windows are fitted with moulded architraves and keystones, and there are two storeys plus garrets, with a five-window range of glazing bar sashes. The layout is L-shaped, with a central moulded stone doorcase that has a hood and a datestone above, leading to a half-glazed 19th-century door flanked by two plain sash windows. To the left is a two-storey addition with two windows that have similar fenestration. The right gable features a round-headed garret window. The rear wing gable displays the initials G B and the date in burnt headers. The adjoining barns and stables have hipped stone slate roofs. The range next to the house includes two slatted casements flanked by stable doors, and to the right, there is an elliptical arched barn door. To the left is a garage door with a wooden lintel, above which is a two-light glazing bar casement and a blocked window to the right. The return range to the right features an elliptical arched barn door on the left and a single-storey lean-to addition to its left. To the right, there are two elliptical arched cart openings, with a two-light slatted opening with a stone mullion above them. Additionally, there is a loft door located between the floors on the left. The interior has not been inspected.
