Description
The K6 telephone kiosk, designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, is located outside the north-west corner of Sheffield Town Hall. This standardised kiosk is made of cast iron, featuring a hardwood door and is painted red overall. It has long horizontal glazing in the door and sides, with crowns on the top panels that are applied rather than perforated. There are rectangular white display signs reading "TELEPHONE" beneath the shallow curved roof. The kiosk is equipped with modern internal equipment.
This kiosk is positioned in front of two listed buildings: the Grade I Sheffield Town Hall and a Grade II police box from 1928, which is approximately 10 meters to the west. The telephone kiosk has a strong visual and contextual relationship with these two listed buildings.
