Description

Abacus House, located at 24 and 26 Norfolk Row in Sheffield, is a building that dates back to around 1791. Originally three houses, it has been converted into offices and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The structure is built of brick with a rendered and color-washed ground floor on the north side, featuring ashlar dressings and a hipped slate roof with a single ridge, gable, and rear wall stacks.

The building has a plinth, a first-floor sill band, and a wooden eaves cornice. It stands two storeys tall and has a window arrangement of four by three. The windows are mainly plain sashes. The north front facing Norfolk Row has four windows on the ground floor and three similar windows above, all with keystone lintels. A central Classical stone doorcase features engaged Doric columns and an open pediment, with a 20th-century glazed door and fanlight. To the left, there are two windows, and to the right, a single window, all with keystone lintels.

On the left return, which faces Norfolk Street (now renumbered), there is a three-storey canted bay window on the right with three plain sashes on the upper floors, featuring brick flat arches. Below this bay window is a central 20th-century glazed double door flanked by single 20th-century windows. To the left, there are two plain sashes on the upper floors, also with brick flat arches, and below, another 20th-century glazed double door. The interior has not been inspected.
