Description
The Ruskin Gallery is a gallery building located on Norfolk Street in Sheffield, dating from around 1875. It was converted and restored in 1985. The structure is built of brick with a stucco ground floor and features ashlar dressings, rendered returns, and a slate roof with two rendered gable stacks. Notable architectural elements include a plinth, an arcaded ground floor with a dentilled cornice, a second-floor sill band, modillion wooden eaves, and coped gables. The building stands three storeys tall and has a seven-window range of margin light sashes with carved stone lintels. Above these, there are seven smaller sashes with brick flat arches and keystones. The ground floor arcade is characterized by moulded round arches with imposts and keystones, along with four 20th-century single-pane transomed windows. The central recessed doorway features a cast-iron fanlight grille, while at each end, there are cast-iron grilled double doors with similar fanlights. The frieze includes an inscription that refers to the restoration work carried out in 1985. The interior has not been inspected.
