Description

Bingley Seat is a 17th-century farmhouse located on Woodbank Road in Bradfield. It is constructed from thinly coursed sandstone with gritstone dressings, featuring more deeply coursed wallstone at the ends and rear. The building has a three-room plan, with paired doorways on the left that suggest it was originally two separate dwellings. There is a small wing at the rear of the right-hand part.

The farmhouse stands two storeys high and has three windows on the first floor. It has a chamfered plinth and large quoins. The pair of doorways on the left are set with deep lintels and quoin reveals, all of which are chamfered. The front windows are all double-chamfered with slightly projecting sills, although no mullions remain. The windows include a five-light window to the left of the doors and two four-light windows to the right. A continuous dripmould runs above the doorways and is dropped and returned at the left-hand end. The first-floor windows are all five-light.

There is a ridge stack on the partition wall between the doorways and another stack on the right gable, which features copings and moulded kneelers. The rear of the building has mullioned windows and an unusual circular light on the first floor of the wing. There is a flat-roofed extension on the left return, which is not of special interest.
