Description
White House Farmhouse is a mid-17th century farmhouse constructed from gritstone rubble with a stone slate roof. It features a two-room former baffle-entry plan with a continuous outshut, standing two storeys high with an attic and two windows on the first floor. The building has large quoins and a doorway on the right that has chamfered quoin reveals and a stop-chamfered lintel. Each floor is adorned with two 4-light double-chamfered mullion windows. The gables are enhanced with moulded kneelers and chamfered gable copings, while the gable stacks have been renewed in later stonework.
At the rear, there are two 3-light double-chamfered mullion windows, a small light for the stair, and a conservatory added around 1984, which is not of special interest. Inside, there is a braced arcade post to the aisle and original plank and muntin partitioning. The right ground floor room features an early 18th century stone fireplace with corbels and a moulded mantle. Evidence of a former smokehood can be seen in the spliced spine beam and the stop-chamfer positions on the spine beam of the attic floor.
