Description
Woodseats Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located in Bradfield. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar with a stone slate roof and consists of three storeys. The front features three first-floor windows and a two-storey, two-bay kitchen block to the rear left. The gable front has a chamfered plinth. To the right, there is an original doorway that has been converted into a window, featuring cyma-moulded quoins and a lintel. A later doorway, positioned to the right of centre, has a plain ashlar surround.
The farmhouse has double-chamfered mullion windows throughout. The ground floor includes a four-light window with a transom and king mullion on the left, and a window on the right with only the king mullion remaining. On the first floor, there are two four-light windows with king mullions and a lower two-light window to the right. The second floor features two three-light windows and a single-light triangular-headed window to the right. Each floor has a continuous dripmould, which is raised over the right window on the second floor.
The building has two gables, each with a pigeon ledge, although the openings are blocked. The kneelers are shaped to the left, and there is ashlar coping. There is a corniced ashlar stack on the left ridge and another stack on the right. The rear of the farmhouse has two single-light triangular-headed windows and two-light double-chamfered mullion windows, with a dripmould over the second floor. The kitchen block features a doorway, now a window, with a chamfered hoodmould on the right, and a double-chamfered mullion window that has been converted into a door.
On the right return, there is a blocked chamfered doorway with decorative stops to the right and a gable with ashlar coping to the left. The left return has double-chamfered mullion windows on the ground and first floors, with three lights to the left and two blocked lights to the right.
Inside, the ground floor has moulded spine beams and some moulded plank and muntin partitioning in the staircase area at the rear. The kitchen block contains two large arched fireplace openings.
