Description

Leader House and the adjoining boundary wall are two houses built in 1780, with early and mid 19th century additions and 20th century alterations. They were constructed by the Duke of Norfolk for Vincent Eyre. The building is made of brick, with the right side rendered and colorwashed, featuring ashlar dressings and a slate roof that has one brick and two rendered gable stacks. Architectural details include a plinth, chamfered quoins, a wooden mutule eaves cornice, and a parapet with ramped coping.

The structure has three storeys and a three-window range. The lower floors have 12-pane sash windows, while the upper floor has 6-pane sashes, all with multi-keystone lintels. To the left, there is a set-back mid 19th century addition that is three storeys high, featuring two plain sashes on each floor with moulded architraves. The right return includes a two-storey rear wing with three 12-pane sashes and a central early 19th century canted bay window with a cornice and three 12-pane sashes.

On the left side, there is a wooden Classical doorcase with Doric columns and an open pediment, which holds a beaded six-panel door and a fanlight. To the right of this door, there is another 12-pane sash window, followed by a mid 19th century single-storey canted addition. To the left of this addition, there is a moulded six-panel door with an overlight, and to the right, two more 12-pane sashes.

The exterior features a curved brick boundary wall with a plinth and moulded stone coping, along with a pair of square gate piers topped with caps. The Leader family has occupied the property since the early 19th century.
