Description
The York and Lancaster Regiment Boer War Memorial is a regimental war memorial built in 1903 and later relocated with alterations in the late 20th century. Designed by John Dodsley Webster, it is made of bronze and granite. The memorial features three ogee-headed bronze panels, with the larger central panel displaying an inscription and the regimental crest, topped with a finial shaped like the regimental badge. The outer panels have cusped heads and depict relief figures of soldiers. Below the panels is an inscribed plinth, and above them is a traceried crest. On either side of the memorial, there is a late 20th-century wall made of granite setts. Originally, the memorial was located in Church Street, near the Cathedral.
