Description
The Statue of Ebenezer Elliott, located in Weston Park, is a memorial statue created in 1854 by Neville Northey Burnard. It features a bronze figure of Elliott, which is over life-size, depicted seated on a rock. He is dressed in a frock coat, waistcoat, and cravat, holding a sheaf of corn in his right hand to signify his role as a Corn Law reformer, while his left hand holds a book of verses or possibly a folded pamphlet. The rock base is adorned with relief carvings of foxgloves and ivy. The rear of the statue's base bears a signature and the sculptor's mark N.N.BURNARD. SC. The statue is mounted on a tall, square granite pedestal that has a chamfered plinth and a shaped cap. The front face of the pedestal is inscribed with the name ELLIOTT in large plain letters. This pedestal rests on a two-stepped York stone base, with a round cast-iron bollard positioned at each corner.
