Description
The caretaker's house and adjoining boundary wall at the former board school, built in 1903, features late 20th-century alterations. Designed by Holmes & Watson for the Sheffield Education Committee, the building is constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof with a ridge stack. It includes a plinth, string courses, and coped gables. The house is two stories tall with a three-window range. To the left, there is a projecting gable with a catslide roof, featuring a small single light and a larger window with a detached pediment linked to the string course above. In the peak of the gable, there is a triple breather. Below, to the right, is a recessed half-glazed panelled door with a moulded cornice and cartouche, also linked with the string course. To the right of the door, there is a set-back bay with a canted stone bay window that has a cornice and a two-light window with a stone mullion, flanked by narrow round-arched lights. The right return gable has a two-light window on a sill band. The interior has not been inspected. Outside, there is a short length of spiked railing on a chamfered plinth, linked to the boundary wall. The stone boundary wall, approximately 100 meters long, has triangular coping and an off-centre pair of gate piers.
