Description
The Caretaker's House to Springfield Junior and Infant Schools, built around 1877, features late 20th-century alterations and was likely designed by Innocent & Brown for the Sheffield School Board. The building is constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and has gabled and hipped slate roofs, including a prominent rear gable stack. It has a plinth and coped gables, standing two storeys plus garrets with a two-window range. The front elevation, facing the playground, includes a cross casement window on the left and a smaller casement with an incised lintel on the right, both set on a sillband. Above these, there is a larger cross casement window in the garret. Below, a smaller casement is flanked on the right by a door with an overlight. The left side of the building features a cross casement window on the ground floor. All windows have late 20th-century glazing. The interior was not inspected. This house is one of several similar caretakers' houses added to board schools during 1877-78 and serves as an ancillary building to Springfield Junior and Infant Schools.
