Description
No. 40 Victoria Street is a house and adjoining coach house, now used as offices and garages, built around 1850 with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building features painted brickwork and has hipped and gabled slate roofs, supported by four rendered coped ridge stacks and a single similar stack at the rear. It has a plinth, an eaves band, and deep wooden eaves.
The main block on the left side is two storeys high and has a three-window range of 12-pane sash windows. Below these windows is a prominent central doorcase with panelled double pilasters and a cornice that has a shaped blocking course. On either side of the doorcase, there is a 12-pane sash window.
To the right, there is a set-back wing that is also two storeys tall, featuring a three-window range of 6-pane sashes. Below this wing is a central canted bay window with a cornice and three glazing bar sashes, flanked on the left by a 12-pane sash window and on the right by a garage door. Further to the right, there is a projecting two-storey pavilion with angle pilasters and a pediment, which includes a single 6-pane sash window above and two garage doors below. The interior has not been inspected.
