Description
Waterthorpe Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into two houses. It dates from the mid-18th century, with early 19th-century additions and late 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of squared dressed stone, partly rendered, and features ashlar dressings. It has stone slate and Welsh slate roofs, along with two brick gable stacks. Architectural details include a plinth, chamfered quoins, and coped gables with kneelers.
The farmhouse is two storeys tall, plus a cellar and garrets, and has a two-window range. The front has two 12-pane sash windows from 1989, which have plain stone surrounds with keystones. Below these, there is a central 20th-century door flanked by single 12-pane sashes. To the right, there is a single-storey wash house with a ridge stack and two doors. The rendered left gable features a small plain sash window to the left and a central 20th-century casement above. Below this, there is a 12-pane sash with a keystone.
At the rear, a two-storey wing has two windows, including a 12-pane sash with a plain surround and a 20th-century casement to the right. Below, there is a 20th-century wooden cross casement with three lights, and to the right, a beaded stone doorcase with a triple keystone and a fielded six-panel door with an overlight.
Inside, the farmhouse has a single purlin roof made of reused timber and a dogleg staircase with winders leading to the second floor. The staircase features a cut string, ramped and scrolled handrail, and vase and stem balusters. The stone-lined cellar has an elliptical brick vault and a three-light chamfered mullioned window. There are also two stone-lined cupboards and a stone salting table in situ. The cellar door is a six-panel design with a balustered vent above it, and there are six beaded six-panel doors throughout the interior.
