GV II

Almshouses. 1879. Built for the Licensed Victuallers Association. Coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and slate roof with 8 coped stone ridge stacks. Tudor Gothic style. Plinth, quoins, bracketed wooden eaves, coped gables. 2 storeys and single storey plus attics. 15 window range. Central chapel flanked by wings of dwellings, with large gabled wings at either end. Chapel, topped with domed octagonal lantern and spire, has a moulded doorway and above it, on a sillband, a Decorated 4-light pointed arch window with hoodmould. Wings have pairs of cross mullioned casements flanked by paired panelled doors with overlights, and beyond, single cross mullioned casements. The far right pair of doors has been altered, and one door has been replaced by a window. Above, each wing has 3 gabled dormers with cross mullioned windows. End gables have a 3-light cross mullioned window on each floor, linked by a traceried panel and with a hoodmould. INTERIOR not inspected.
