Description

The Licensed Victuallers Almshouses, built in 1879 for the Licensed Victuallers Association, are located on Abbeydale Road South in Sheffield. This building is constructed from coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with eight coped stone ridge stacks. Designed in the Tudor Gothic style, it has a plinth, quoins, bracketed wooden eaves, and coped gables. The structure consists of two storeys and a single storey with attics, featuring a total of 15 windows.

At the center is a chapel flanked by wings of dwellings, with large gabled wings at either end. The chapel is topped with a domed octagonal lantern and spire, and it has a moulded doorway. Above the doorway, there is a Decorated 4-light pointed arch window with a hoodmould on a sillband. The wings contain pairs of cross mullioned casements, which are flanked by paired panelled doors with overlights, and further along, there are single cross mullioned casements. The far right pair of doors has been altered, with one door replaced by a window. Each wing features three gabled dormers with cross mullioned windows above. The end gables have a 3-light cross mullioned window on each floor, linked by a traceried panel and adorned with a hoodmould. The interior has not been inspected.
